It’s time that we talk podcasts….
I under-utilized the podcast app on my phone until last year. I never even bothered with it. I thought it was like talk radio–and it turns out it is a lot like talk radio–only much better.
One day I randomly turned it on…then the next day I listened to another, then the next, then the next, and the next. I can say now that I haven’t gone a day without listening to a Podcast since the day I started.
So, why are they so great?
They’re great because I am thick in throws of motherhood. Most of my verbal communication throughout the day is about making slime, naked butt coconuts, and pleading for Ozzy to not pee in every container-ish shape he comes across (for those of you that saw the cash register video—there’s no further explanation). My mind is seriously lacking in the engaging conversation department– So, the minute I discovered the treasure of conversation that podcast are, I couldn’t go back to not listening.
I listen to them while I do dishes, or fold laundry….or you know how most of the time your kids just want to be with you? Like they simply just want you to sit with them while they play with army guys for 3 hours straight, or while they watch Ryan’s Toy Review on youtube for the millionth time? Thats when I listen. I’m content and filling up my cup, while my kids are content and filling up theirs at the same time.
My favorite podcast right off the bat has been my friend Lauryn’s from The Skinny Confidential. It’s called Him and Her…and guys, its so, so great. They cover everything from business and relationship talk, to funny as hell/pee your pants guest talk, to beauty, health, and wellness.
Then there’s Tim ferris, who’s always great, Judah Smith with City Church (I love this guy! I start my day with a little church session every morning with him), S Town, Missing Richard Simmons, Lady Gang—I could go on, and on.
Long story short—I like to think that listening to podcasts everyday keeps my mind sharp. It an amazing tool for us moms because I know most of us don’t have the time to sit and read for an hour a day when theres kids to pick up and drop off, a house to clean, and pantry to stock—With podcasts I can mom mode all day long, while feeding my brain and soul at the same time.
Anyway, a few weeks ago Bronson and I actually went on our friends Michael and Lauryn’s podcast called Him and Her…and all I can say is: Amnesia is real. Like SO real. We were so nervous going on, because we all know I am a chronic over-sharer—but when it was over I couldn’t remember anything we talked about..like NOTHING! As the weeks went on I would wake up in the morning remembering bits and pieces, and in total utter terror ask Bronson if he remembered talking about the high school ‘pull out’ method of birth control, to which he would reply ‘yes’–then I would die a million slow deaths.
It’s been an anxious wait to finally listen to (to say the least) and its out today. EEEK! Can we say anxiety ridden? I don’t know how Michael and Lauryn do this multiple times a week, cause listening to your own voice is some sick from of torture….it’s a special sort of hell. BUT! Take a listen… It gives you a well rounded view of how we started out. And spoiler alert: It wasn’t all rainbows and unicorn fraps….it’s still not.
Let me know what you think!
